Why take months to heal, when you can take days?
What is an EMDR intensive?
Just as EMDR is a very different approach to psychotherapy, the Intensive is a very different approach to providing EMDR treatment. Because of the “rewiring” and truly healing effect of EMDR, an Intensive can work in ways that are not possible utilizing standard talk-therapy techniques. With EMDR processing, we can desensitize negative feelings and change the negative belief about self that has been encoded onto the memory in order to “rewire” the brain and truly heal the individual. This means much more material can be processed and healed much more quickly in an Intensive session than is possible in traditional weekly therapy. One of the quickest and most effective ways to overcome our struggles and reduce/eliminate symptoms is through EMDR Intensive Therapy. With EMDR intensives, we will work together for 6 hours a day.
Benefits of EMDR Intensives:
- Find life changing healing in days, not weeks or months
- In the long run, Intensives are more cost effective because the therapy is concentrated and highly focused. The work is much more efficient and in the end requires less session time and less cost overall. Rather than opening up and closing things down each week, I only have to open things up once and so more session time is spent processing and healing.
- For many clients, no more weekly therapy appointments are needed, resulting in more free time to enjoy family, hobbies, and life!
- You do not have to live in Alabama! My practice is located near both Lake Guntersville, Alabama and Huntsville, Alabama but clients can come in from anywhere in the world for an EMDR intensive, spend several days doing work, and then go home to their daily life with a lighter heart. I can help you with information about nearby restaurants, attractions, and the airport in Huntsville.
FACTS:
Where will it be held?
Shorter intensives (half day – two days) can be held at my therapy office in Huntsville, Alabama or at The Sanctuary, my therapy cabin, The Sanctuary at Bluffhaven, located on Gunter Mountain near Lake Guntersville, Alabama only 45 minutes away from Huntsville.
Longer intensives will be available at The Sanctuary, a beautiful therapy retreat cabin located in a peaceful and private setting near Lake Guntersville. This allows clients a chance to work in comfortable surroundings, enjoy coffee or tea, and sit on the porch overlooking the woods. There’s no need to travel to and from the “office” because the client can stay in this beautiful cabin and enjoy the tranquility.
How much does it cost?
When I reserve time for your Intensive, I will be reserving the entire day for you. The daily rate is $1,400/day or $2000.00/day on weekends. The half day rate is $700 on a weekday or $1000 on weekends. A 50% deposit will be required to confirm your Intensive reservation, and the remaining 50% will be paid on the last day of the Intensive. This fee includes a 90 minute intake session to prepare for our time together. A 50 minute follow up session is available if desired for $150.
Lodging and Breakfast at The Sanctuary is $175 per night. Additional nights of lodging are available based on availability. If you are interested in extra nights, just let me know.
How Much Time Will I Need?
It depends. Intensives last from 2-5 days. During your intake consultation, we will discuss what you would like to work on and the goals you would like to achieve through the Intensive. At that time you and I will make a determination regarding how much time will be needed.
What will a typical day look like in an Intensive?
Typically, sessions will begin around 9 am, with a lunch break around noon and ending around 4 pm, though that schedule is entirely flexible to accommodate the work being pursued. Depending on the nature of the processing, breaks will be taken as needed. The amount of time we will be working each day will fluctuate depending on the work we are doing. The nice part about Intensives is the flexibility afforded to tailor fit the work to what your system needs at the time. Intensives offer the opportunity to work together in a more thoughtful manner than hourly sessions allow. Creative elements and time in nature may be included.
Can I continue regular therapy sessions afterward?
Many clients can complete an Intensive and then return to their lives ready to simply move forward. Some clients will benefit from having a working relationship with a therapist who can help them deal with things if they are only working on certain aspects of their treatment in the Intensive. Some clients will need to schedule several intensives to fully process and heal their stories and in these cases a weekly therapist to help manage things between Intensives may be recommended or required. This will be thoroughly assessed and discussed in the intake.
What if I need to cancel?
If something comes up and you are unable to attend your Intensive, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss rescheduling. Rescheduling will not affect your deposit or payment. If you need to cancel your Intensive entirely, any deposit money already paid will be returned minus a $1,000 scheduling fee if the cancellation is made more than 30 days before your scheduled Intensive. Deposits are fully non-refundable if the cancellation is made within 30 days of the scheduled Intensive.
Things to consider:
AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE
Intensive therapy is a financial investment in you and your future. Rather than being on the weekly payment plan of traditional therapy treatment, you will be investing a larger amount of money up front (that in the long run will likely still be less money than ongoing weekly therapy). Many people have to plan ahead and save before they can schedule an Intensive. Once the Intensive is scheduled though, you will have a fixed cost to work with rather than the unknown of ongoing weekly therapy.
CHANGE HAS AN IMPACT
When clients make fast but highly effective changes in how they feel, that can often impact (both positively as well as negatively) the family system in which they live. Sometimes other parts of the system don’t handle the healing very well. These issues and concerns will be addressed both on intake as well as at the wrap up of the Intensive. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and understand that while Intensive work is amazingly healing, it can also be system disrupting.
