For mental health professionals: Complicated grief is often the invisible thread that runs through the lives of the clients we see and work with every day. Much of the time, individuals are unaware of the way their grief is impacting their lives and relationships. This workshop is designed to help therapists identify and normalize the emotions and experiences clients may have in the wake of losses of all sorts. We will learn about the types of complicated grief and the factors that may contribute to the complication of the grieving process. Time will be spent explaining the needs of mourning and how to help clients who may appear to be stalled in some way as they seek to adapt to a new reality and integrate their losses. We will use case studies to illustrate how these complicating factors often impact not only the normal progression and adaptive process of grief but the individual's functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life.
